Spring Classes Beginning March 17, 2013
Colossians Scott Mawhinney (203)
Everyone and his brother has an opinion on everything, especially how to fix your problems. But how many times to those opinions complicate and create more problems and division in relationships. The apostle Paul speaks to the church at Colossae and entreats them to listen to ONE voice and ONE voice ONLY, the voice of Jesus Christ. It is IN Him and THROUGH HIM, the SUPREME CHRIST, that we grow, learn, heal and love in UNITY.
Heaven, Hell & the End of the World Steve Jeantet & Kyle Cookerly (204)
The Mayan calendar ended on December 21, 2012, just one of many misguided and inaccurate attempts to predict the how and when of the end of the world. Jesus said that not even he knew the day or the hour when it would all come to an end. But make no mistake: This world will come to an end. And then what? This class will investigate what the Bible actually teaches about heaven (hint: it's not an eternity long worship service!), the gut-wrenching reality of hell, how it will all come to be... and why it should even matter to us.
Parenting Peter Magnuson and Lesleah Lutz (205)
There is no tougher nor satisfying job in this world than being a mom or dad. No matter if you are a single parent or a mom and dad raising your 8-18 year old children, this class is for you. How to develop a real relationship with your children? What dangers in our culture do you need to protect them from? How to reach your child’s heart? Leading them spiritually, what does that look like? Lesleah Lutz and Peter Magnuson will be leading you through this difficult mine field. Both of them have been there and done that, as they say.
Apologetics II Steve Ponchot (206)
How can we defend the "hope that is in us" to various religions and cults"?
Summer Classes June 2nd - July 7th (6 weeks)
The Parables John Gary & Gordon Shaw
How does one describe the Kingdom of God to men and women in terms they can understand? Have you ever wondered what Jesus meant when he said that the Kingdom of God is “near” us, or even “in” us? Have you ever seen the Kingdom of God at work on this earth, in your church, in your community, in your home or business? See this fascinating series from The Master Story teller in a new way through the teaching of one of our best theologian/teachers (R.C. Sproul) as well as dramatic presentations depicted in a contemporary format. You will have the chance to discuss what you see and fire questions.
Your Real Father: Adopted by God Steve Jeantet & Scott Mawhinney
Attachment disorder is exactly that, a disorder. Adopted children often struggle to see their adoptive parents as their true caregivers, as their real father and real mother. Although they are a true son or daughter, they don't see themselves that way. Their father and mother signed the documents. The judge signed the documents. The gavel came down. They are a true son or daughter, but they live life alone even in the middle of a family. Often times, this can lead to a life of destructive behavior that stems from a false identity. Bottom line: They are sons and daughters who live like orphans, always keeping everyone at arms length and often sabotage even the closest relationships out of a lack of trust. All too often this is exactly how we live in spite of the fact that we are called sons and daughters of God. The cross says so. The empty grave says so. Our faith in Christ says so. The Bible says so. God's gavel has come down! The declaration has been made! Why do we then live like orphans, always keeping God at arms length? What are we so afraid of? Why can't we trust him? What will it take for you to see God as your real Father?
Summer Classes July 14th - August 11th (6 weeks)
Ecclesiastes: The Meaning of Life Rick Drass
Since the dawn of his creation, man has searched for the answer to his most pressing question. What is the meaning of life? Throughout the ages he has struggled to find the answer. Men have sought the answer to this question in science, in nature, in sex,in every pleasure that crossed his mind, in material possessions, in human wisdom and intellect. But for all the things he has tried and thought, man has not been able to satisfy his hunger for a solution to the meaning of life and his purpose on the earth. However, the answer to the meaning of life is here in our hands. God has provided the answer. The book of Ecclesiastes answers this question for us in 12 short chapters. Over the next several weeks, we will study this book and discover the answer that God has for us to this most ponderous of questions.
The Beatitudes: Jesus’ Core Teaching about “Kingdom Living” Rusty Blix
The Sermon on the Mount is Jesus’ first and most complete teaching on the Christian life. Nestled in that sermon are The Beatitudes, clear, compelling and yes, radical descriptions of the life to which we’ve been called. Just as many of his original listeners were astonished at his teaching, we can be as well, and then be overjoyed at the grace that makes this radical life possible.
